Facilities

The Genesee Volley Tennis Club is located on the historic Hartford House estate at 17 Avon Road in the Village of Geneseo. The Hartford House was built by Gen. James S. Wadsworth in 1835. It, and approximately 75 acres of the estate grounds, are currently owned by his great-great-great grandson Corrin Strong, who is an avid tennis player.

In the spring of 2008, with the help of 35 Charter Club Members, Corrin completed construction of a brand new Har-Tru clay tennis court. It is believed to be the only modern clay court in Livingston County and Corrin's vision is to share the joy of clay court tennis with his friends and neighbors around the county.

Corrin also remodeled the former estate ice house adjacent to the court for use as a clubhouse and pro shop. The ice house was in an advanced state of deterioration before being rescued for the club (See photo).

The court itself is located just north of the main house in a park-like setting. It is well shaded in both the morning and evening and enjoys a steady cooling breeze from the valley to the west. The court also includes a practice backboard.

In 2009, the club also added a grass court , just west of the Har-Tru court which is now open for play. In 2010 the club added lights for night play on the Har-Tru court. The lights will be ready for fall league play.

The Hartford House now offers a 4-room Bed & Breakfast Suite to book your tennis getaway. The Garden Suite info can be found here.

The court areas and tennis house are leased to the Genesee Volley Tennis Club. Members and guests are asked not to enter on any other part of the estate unless invited by a member of the Strong family.
